Clients use Engenious for an independent read of the competitive and clinical landscape. We analyze competitor products directly, including hands-on teardowns, and assess where the technology and clinical practice are heading. Because the team doing the analysis design medical devices for a living, the insights go deeper than a web search or spec sheet review. Our team ties leading indicators back to component level decisions that drive real functional benefits from day one.
Engenious does the legwork that informs a product roadmap: VOC, competitive analysis, and internal stakeholder input, combined into the strategic opportunities worth pursuing. We help client product managers separate features that address a real unmet need from the ones that only add cost, then help sequence features into a roadmap product managers can defend with confidence.
A roadmap is only useful when it reaches the market through development. Engenious carries the clear product vision and detailed product requirements into inputs our engineering team creates from. The result is a product definition that survives contact with development, because the team that specified it can create it too. Solid strategy not only benefits the users, strategy shows up in COGS, time to market and clinical results. Our roadmaps are product to do lists based on data-driven trade off decisions, and not hollow presentations.
Product managers answer to their own organizations. Engenious helps client product managers capture internal stakeholder needs and assemble the evidence to make the case for a program. Not only the good of the product line, but a roadmap that holds up in the room where it gets funded. Sometimes that means thinking about the overall system level architecture that may be out of scope but is no less important than when guiding a program through the NPD process.
Our client came to us with a major advancement in a patented consumable. The problem was that the advancement was held behind an off the shelf durable pump system that underperformed for clinical benefits and market advantage. The client needed a class-leading pump to break through and expand market share of the consumable. Starting with a rough idea for desired performance specifications, Engenious quickly built a robust set of requirements. We built a market landscape analysis illustrating where the dozens of products were positioned between acute care and homecare, along with other product drivers. We planned Voice of Customer (VOC) research, then recruited clinician participants and led the Study. We quickly acquired competitor systems then conducted bench testing to understand performance relative to claims, followed by competitive tear downs. Through all this, we established must-have features, and key innovations for our clients new system. We defined a market-leading product with requirements that oriented the engineering team around common goals. The result is a device that disrupts the market for NPWT care and sets up a roadmap for expansion in the future.

Improved use workflows and reduced friction to adoption.
Dramatically lowered COGS by understanding theuser-technology-cost trade offs.
Created a closed loop system of consumable and durable with higher performance than incumbent products
Reduced development time through benchtop proof of concept prototyping and testing.
Streamlined the device requirements and development budget by refining and prioritizing against market data.
